How to purchase computers for your insurance agency: The newest models at the lowest cost
Who likes to buy computers for their office? I actually do, it’s weird I know, but in this blog maybe you will understand why.
Owning multiple companies I’ve had to buy many computers in my lifetime. When I tell others how I buy computers they always tell me that maybe I should tell more people about how I do it…
…so here it is.
There are many ways to buy a computer but really it comes down to one of these three ways.
You can build your own, but for 99% of us that is not reasonable. Here are three ways to buy.
Big Box Shops – third best way
The first way to buy is through what I call a big box shop like Best Buy, Walmart or some other business where you can buy brand new computers.
This option is a good one but just know that in these big box shops they preload programs onto the computer that the industry calls “bloat ware”.
These programs are good but the big box shop gets a cut of it. It’s not needed and can slow down your computer, not to mention you are paying full price.
Direct to Manufacturer – second best way
The second way is to go to the actual manufacturer and buy directly from them.
Example: Go to HP’s website and buy a computer directly off of their website. You could do the same thing with Dell, IBM, etc.
This is another way to buy a computer and I would say is the second best out of the three. In this instance, you may not be getting all the bloat ware like at the big box but still are getting some.
And….this is the most expensive way to buy them.

Amazon Renewed or Refurbished – the best way to buy
The third and IMO the best way is to go to Amazon and buy the computer. You might be thinking, Jason that’s it, go to Amazon?
And the answer is yes, but what you search is the key
Between my two businesses I have bought 18 computers in the last 36 months by doing it this way. It’s the only way I go.
All you have to do is go to Amazon and type “computer renewed” or “computer refurbished” in the search bar, hit enter and boom you are on your way!
Many of them are brand new, never been used. Most are between $300-$500 and are top of the line brands with new models that just came out.
Why the great cost? The computer was shipped to someone and didn’t work, or did not pass quality at the manufacturer. So a third party buys them at wholesale for pennies on the dollar, fixes them and then sells them on Amazon or their website.
Of the 18 plus I have purchased I have not had one issue.
